MARY RYAN’S BOOKSHOP

Recently while on holiday in Noosa, Queensland I was delighted to find a new bookstore had opened in the town since our last visit.
It transpired that although Mary Ryan’s was indeed new to Noosa the original Mary Ryan’s opened in Brisbane 32 years ago.

Bill Concannon is the C.E.O. of the company and since taking over in September 2000 he and his partner Jackie Fulton, have built the business from one store to 10 stores today.
They are all in Queensland except for the Byron Bay store in northern New South Wales.

In 2004 Mary Ryan’s was voted Queensland and Australia Bookshop of the Year by the Australian Publishers Association.
They won the same awards back in 1996 under the previous ownership of the Ryan family.
Bill put the awards down to the combination of beautiful locations, extensive range of book titles, successful author events and knowledgeable and dedicated staff.

They publish an attractive quarterly magazine too and also have a website: www.maryryan.com.au

Philip and I were both impressed with the Noosa store and did our bit for the Australian economy by purchasing several books from them during our stay.
