THE END OF THE GOLDEN WEATHER

Once again a scene from The End of the Golden Weather will be presented on Takapuna Beach on Christmas Day. As with last year, actor Stephen Lovatt, best known as Max Hoyland in Neighbours, will be the performer.

In the play, there is a scene set on Takapuna Beach on Christmas Day and playwright Roger Hall organized the presentation last year in the hopes that it will become an annual event, a traditional part of Christmas Day for those living on the Shore.

One reason for the event is to commemorate one of New Zealand’s major playwrights, Bruce Mason, whose childhood was spent in a house on Takapuna Beach.

Last year, one hundred and twenty people sat on the grass (pictured) to watch and enjoy Stephen present the scene at 10am on Christmas morning. Hall comments: “It was a perfect setting: the sea in the background and the pohutukawas in bloom and the weather was kind. The audience loved it. It’s a free event and I’m hoping we’ll get at least the same number this year.”
