The best-selling author tells Mandrake that he has won a prize. Last night, he received the Prix Polar International Prize for the best international thriller of the year, for his novel A Prisoner of Birth, in Cognac, France.
"I was surprised and delighted to have been awarded such a prestigious prize, and can only hope it won't harm my sales in the future," joked the peer.
The novel leant on his experiences inside Belmarsh prison, where he spent three weeks in 2001.
