MORE BOOKSTORE CLOSURES IN US AFFECT MAGAZINES

As chains like Borders close their stores it's becoming even harder to find independent magazines, yet there are more independent titles than ever. Stack bypasses the newsstand to connect independent magazines with interested, engaged readers, building a strong community around the world's best small magazines.

Stack was founded in London in December last year and sends magazines to subscribers all over the world. On Tuesday 20 October it will launch Stack America, allowing it to reach even more readers with even more outstanding magazines.
They have just issued the following press release:

British business boosts American magazines

Independent magazine company Stack is pleased to announce the launch of Stack America, the service that sources the best independent magazines from the USA and beyond and delivers them direct to your door, wherever you are in the world.
Founded in London in December 2008, Stack has created a totally new way to discover and enjoy magazines. It brings together outstanding independent titles from all over the world and sends a different one to its subscribers every month. Subscribers never know what they’re going to get next, but they do know that it will be a beautiful, intelligent surprise – a magazine that they probably wouldn’t otherwise have come across.

"There’s a huge wealth of independent magazines made in America, and there are lots of readers who want to get hold of them," says Stack America CEO Andrew Losowsky. "But there are problems of marketing and distribution – small magazines find it hard to promote themselves effectively, and with many Americans living out of reach of a good magazine store it can often be impossible for people to discover and pick up new titles. And that’s to say nothing of all the people across the rest of the world who’d love to get hold of the best in independent publishing."

The magazines sent out by Stack America will be different to those chosen for the main Stack service, and while there will be a bias towards magazines made in the USA, Canada and South America, it will also supply magazines from elsewhere in the world.

"We’ve seen fantastic interest from the USA and Canada since Stack first launched," says Stack founder Steven Watson. "It seemed obvious that there should be a branch of Stack dedicated to serving American magazines and their readers, and in Andrew we’ve found a real magazine expert and enthusiast – exactly the sort of person we need to take on Stack America and make it a success."
Stack America launches on 20 October and its first delivery will go out at the start of January. To sign up go to www.stackmagazines.com/america and choose the delivery options that are right for you.
