Kiwi-Yankee Initiative -
With newspapers folding and magazines shrinking, Kiwi-Yankee writer-photographers Jules and Effin Older went digital.

Working with two young engineers who founded Sutro Media, they created an iPhone app, San Francisco Restaurants.
It’s the Olders’ take on 75-or-so of their favourite San Francisco Bay Area restaurants. Jules does the reviewing; Effin does the shooting.

The app costs 99 American cents; it’s available on iPhone or iPod Touch.

Jules describes it as “the anti-Yelp. Not plagued by enraged, empowered, anonymous young men and then countered by restaurant chefs, owners and investors, San Francisco Restaurants is written by an uncorruptible food & travel writer, shot by a widely published food & travel photographer.”

The Olders’ travel and food articles have appeared in the US, Canada and New Zealand. They have a piece on Phar Lap in the current North & South.

As soon as the app was OK’d by Apple, Jules and Effin created San Francisco Restaurants, the Movie. The two-minute video is on YouTube now.

Here’s how to find the app and the movie:

San Francisco Restaurants, the App: You can get it from the App Store on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
If you're iPhone-less, you can buy it from the iTunes Store through http://sutromedia.com/apps/sfdining
