Saturday Morning with Kim Hill on Radio NZ National - final 2009 programme and Summer Selections

This Saturday, 19 December, is the last full Saturday Morning programme for 2009.

Book-related guests include cosmology writer Marcus Chown, whose new book is We Need to Talk About Kelvin (Faber). He is the first guest on the programme, from about 8.15.

After 9.00, Kim is joined by American writer David Vann, who contributes to a number of magazines, including The Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, Outside Magazine, and Men's Journal. His short story collection, Legend of a Suicide (Penguin Viking), has appeared on 15 "best books of the year" lists, including the Times Literary Supplement and The New York Times. He's also the author of the memoir, A Mile Down: The True Story of a Disastrous Career at Sea.

Later in the programme (around 10.40), Kim talks to Weta Workshop designer Greg Broadmore. Greg has worked on many movies, most recently as lead conceptual designer on sci-fi success District 9, and is the author and illustrator of Dr. Grordbort's: Victory! (Weta Publishing/Dark Horse), described as "scientific adventure violence for young men and literate women".

And to round off the programme, Kate De Goldi will discuss what makes great children’s books.

Full guest details and schedule available from midday Friday at www.radionz.co.nz/saturday.

For Boxing Day and the following four Saturday mornings, the programme will run from 8.00-10.00, and feature (mainly) repeats of interviews from 2009 and earlier programmes.

However, the Boxing Day programme (Saturday 26 December) will feature a new interview with Sam Hunt, whose new book, Backroads: Charting a Poet’s Life (Craig Potton Publishing), was published recently.
It will also feature a 2005 interview with poet Bub Bridger, who died recently.

Full details of guests for the Saturday Summer Selections will appear at www.radionz.co.nz/saturday throughout summer.
Saturday Morning with Kim Hill resumes full broadcast from 30 January 2010.
