EXTRAORDINARY BOOKMAN HONOURED

In their annual gala event in Times Square, Ernst & Young presented their 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year awards, which recognize and honor business leaders who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. That evening, another special award was given as well, when the global firm presented Scholastic CEO Dick Robinson with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award was offered in recognition of Dick’s work as Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic Inc. for the last 40 years. Ernst & Young says, “Under Richard Robinson’s leadership, Scholastic has become the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books and a leader in educational technology and children’s media. Today, the company has nearly 10,000 employees with operations in more than 16 countries around the globe and annual revenue of about $2 billion.”
They continue, “This year, the company is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a global literacy campaign which is built around the Scholastic Reading Bill of Rights, a declaration that all children deserve access to the books and reading instruction that will equip them to read both for information and for inspiration and will prepare them to succeed in the 21st Century.”

In his acceptance speech, Dick read from that Bill of Rights and encouraged the entrepreneurs in the room to join him in Scholastic’s mission. He stressed the importance of reading and literacy not just for our kids’ future, but for our future as well.
Congratulations to Dick Robinson for this prestigious and worthy award!
