KEITH HARING JOURNALS

The Bookman is a longtime admirer of pop artist Keith Haring who sadly died of Aids-related complications in February 1990 aged 31 years. I once saw a series of his famed subway drawings while in New York in the early 1980's.

Last week I bought a copy of Keith Haring Journals (Penguin US) from Unity Books in Auckland and have been enjoying reading it these last few days.
As Mary McCallum and her Tuesday Poem has made me think of poetry every Tuesday I thought today was the appropriate day to quote four lines from Haring's Journals:

Keith Haring thinks in poems.
Keith Haring paints poems.
Poems do not necessarily need words.
Words do not necessarily make poems.
