AUTUMN WRITING COURSES AT THE CREATIVE HUB

FEB NEWS FLASH!
http://www.thecreativehub.net.nz/

We still have a few places left on our thirty-week Advanced Fiction course that begins on March 2 at 6pm, at the Michael King Writers Centre in Devonport. The King Centre is magnificently located on Mount Victoria with panoramic views out over the Waitemata.

Students take part in a weekly 2-3 hour workshop, in which work is discussed and advanced analysis applied to student projects.

A wonderful line-up of leading Auckland writers give workshops on the Advanced Fiction Course, including Tessa Duder (Plot and Structure), Sarah Laing (Writing Description), Paula Morris, Roger Hall (Writing Dialogue), Tina Shaw (Creating Characters), and Judith White (Sentimentality).

This course is intended for Master of Creative Writing graduates, graduates of other mentoring programmes, or those who have had some work published. A leading fiction publisher runs a workshop on publishing fiction, and book publicist Lorraine Steele outlines the techniques of book marketing, a key element in the success of a published work.
The course is chaired by John Cranna, director of the Creative Hub. The nine students on last year’s Advanced Course can be heard reading their work on JAM Radio, Auckland’s premier arts radio station at www.jamradio.co.nz More details on this course at http://www.thecreativehub.net.nz/

Travel Writing and Photography begins Tues, 12 April, 6pm to 9pm. This course is six weeks long. Learn to evoke the sights and smells of the Pacific, America, Latin America, Africa, Asia or Europe. Or learn to more fully experience and write about the many hidden delights of Australasia.

Tutor Yvonne van Dongen is one of New Zealand's most respected travel writers and editors. For a number of years she was Travel Editor of the New Zealand Herald, and subsequently, Travel Editor of onHoliday Magazine. She has won a number of awards for her travel writing, including Best Tourism and Travel column in the Qantas Media Awards, Lifestyle Journalist of the Year, two Commonwealth Media Awards, and Cathay Pacific Media Writer of the Year.
The course is held at the Creative Hub waterfront rooms at the Maritime Museum on Princes Wharf, and is designed to introduce you to the different skills required by expert travel writers.
In addition, the course features two travel photography workshops run by Greta Anderson, a photographer who has worked for NZ Herald, onHoliday magazine, Air New Zealand magazine and Pavement magazine. Visit http://www.thecreativehub.net.nz/ to download a course outline.
