Scott Moyers Leaves Wylie, Returns to Penguin Press As Publisher

From Publishers Lunch

Scott Moyers is leaving The Wylie Agency to rejoin Penguin Press, which he departed in 2007, on May 16. When Moyers left he was editor-in-chief and now he will serve as publisher. Ann Godoff remains as president, and according to the NYT she will take on the title of editor-in-chief as well (she had also been publisher). Current editor-in-chief Eamon Dolan will, as of Monday, become vp, executive editor.

The line will be "expanding its frontlist by 50 percent in course of the next year," from about 40 titles to approximately 60. The release makes a point of saying "the imprint has been profitable every year." Godoff says "his return to The Penguin Press, the publishing program we established together, insures that our growth plan will continue to center on quality and be informed by the breadth of his experience and dedication to his authors."

Moyers' return would seem to leave the Wylie Agency in need of someone to run the New York office, but Andrew Wylie tells the NYT, "the successor is me." He adds, "It's good to have the Penguin Press growing and expanding their footprint, so I'm all for it." And clearly intends to help fill that expanded publishing program: "It was a surprise and we'll miss him, but I suspect I'll see just as much of him wearing his new hat as I did wearing his old."

The release does not mention Eamon Dolan, who has held the title of editor-in-chief at Penguin Press up until now.
