Upcoming courses: Writing for Children & Young Adults, Introduction to Creative Writing, Travel Writing and Photography

Noted childrens author Tessa Duder will be teaching a 10-week course starting at the end of June: Writing for Children and Young Adults. This is a unique opportunity for budding and professional writers - the only intensive course on children’s/YA fiction in New Zealand - and who better to learn from than one of the country’s very best?

***Tessa will be discussing the course and the Creative Hub this Friday 3 June at 7pm on Lindsey's Dawson's Triangle TV show Let's Talk.***

We also have the very popular Introduction to Creative Writing Course starting in July (make haste - it's nearly full) and, because it was so successful first time around, we have a second Travel Writing & Photography Course coming up in September. More info on all three courses follows below – please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

Also, don’t forget to join our Facebook group, where you’ll receive timely info about events and promotions.

Children and Young Adult Fiction Writing Course, begins 29 June, 7-9 pm, 10 wks
Leading children and young adult writer Tessa Duder (right) offers the unique opportunity of a 10-week intensive course in writing for the young. The course covers everything from basic principles, to helping participants with work on a full-length novel, with the sessions covering short stories and picture books through to long fiction, plot, dialogue, the feedback process and more. Tessa will also cover the intricacies of the children’s publishing world – how to approach publishers, resources available for writers, manuscript assessment and more. Tessa Duder is one of New Zealand’s best-known writers for children and young adults, with numerous critically acclaimed books to her credit as well as many awards. She is an active participant in the New Zealand literary community, a former national President of the NZ Society of Authors and served on the Storylines Children’s Literature Charitable Trust of New Zealand.

Introduction to Creative Writing, begins 7 July, 6-8 pm, 8 wks
Take the plunge! This course will introduce you to the skills and techniques that make writing so enjoyable. Find out about the tools professional writers use to make their work publishable. We create a supportive environment in which you can spread your wings in the knowledge that our expert professional writers will provide a guiding hand. There are no prerequisites for this course, other than your willingness to participate in a group learning environment. The course is taught by John Cranna, director of the Creative Hub, and Caroline Lark, poet, playwright and fiction writer.

Travel Writing and Photography Course, begins 13 September, 6-8 pm, 8 wks
Back by popular demand, and now running for an additional two weeks, this course offers insights into what travel page editors are looking for in text and images. Learn to write about exotic destinations or your own local places of interest in a sure and masterful way, and then how to capture the essence of your story from behind the lens. Tutor Yvonne van Dongen  is one of New Zealand's most respected travel writers and editors and has won many awards for her work. She'll be working with multi-award-winning photographer Greta Anderson, who will run two entertaining beyond-the-classroom workshops in Auckland city.
