Tuesday Poem back for 2012 with Kobayashi Issa and Robert Hass

In its first post of 2012, Tuesday Poem has a video of the celebrated US poet, Robert Hass, reading Haiku by Japanese poet Kobayashi Issa that he has translated. This week's editor, Tuesday Poem curator Mary McCallum, says they are a 'deliciously irreverent way to kick off 2012' and comments on how they feel fresh and contemporary despite the fact that the poet died over 180 years ago.

After hearing the haiku, there is another video to view - this time on haiku itself - that argues it is 'the perfect poetic form for our time'. After getting your haiku fix - head to the sidebar and 30 poets from NZ, Australia, the US and UK with a fantastic array of poems they've written themselves or are by poets they admire. Young Cumbrian poet Kim Moore as well as John Clare, Frankie McMillan, Kathleen Jones all feature... and there are many more.
Welcome back Tuesday Poem!
