Gongs for novel adaptations at the Baftas

"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" has won the Outstanding British Film award at this year's Baftas. The John le Carré adaptation (Sceptre) also took home Best Adapted Screenplay.
The award ceremony took place last night in London. Octavia Spencer won the Supporting Actress gong for her role in "The Help", based on Kathryn Stockett's novel (Penguin) while "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" won the Special Visual Effects award.

"Hugo", based on Brian Selnick's The Invention of Hugo Cabret (Scholastic), won the Sound and Production Design awards.
The rest of the night was dominated by silent fim "The Artist" which picked up Best Film, Director, Original Screenplay, Leading Actor, Original Music, Cinematography and Costume Design.
