The Poets' Birthday goes live!

The Tuesday Poem

The Poets' Birthday - the global birthday poem by 26 poets in six countries and 12 cities, written over two weeks, line by line, is up on Tuesday Poem. Written to celebrate the second birthday of the NZ-founded poets' blog, The Poets' Birthday is a about song and celebration, light and company, and is a paean to poets and poetry worldwide.

A rich, rhythmic work, the poem feels as if it's speaking with one voice, not the voice of 26 different poets, many of whom have never met each other. From Boston to Wellington to Ibiza to Italy to London to Dunedin, they logged in and posted their lines, one after the other from April 3 to April 17.

Co-curators of the blog, Mary McCallum and Claire Beynon, both kiwis, are thrilled with the result and see it as a great way to celebrate the past two years as well as push the poetry group into a third year of weekly poems.  'We are once more delighted to raise a glass to our remarkable bunch of poets and devoted blog readers who come together in this place once a week to enjoy and celebrate poetry. We are a community built on trust, generosity, flexibility and a mutual obsession -- and long may it last.
Happy Birthday! Ra whanau ki a korua! Mary McCallum and Claire Beynon (curators).'

They also want to record their heartfelt thanks to Graham Beattie of Beattie's Bookblog for his weekly support of Tuesday Poem
