AWRF - Girls Night Out: Tastings and Tiaras with Kathy Lette at AWRF

by guest contributor Annie.

What a ball of high-style, fast-talking, hilarious energy Kathy Lette proved to be for the 99.5% female audience.

The queen of the quip -  "I have a black belt in tongue foo".
"The dimmer switch is the greatest aid to women, oh, and                                  get older friends".

This was a most entertaining hour, fast, funny & frivolous but with real heart-warming moments especially when Nicky Pellegrino quizzed her about her autistic son who is the inspiration for her new book, "The Boy who Fell to Earth".
She has not previously spoken publicly about him for fear of marginalising or embarrassing him. She said that thankfully the book has had the opposite effect and she has raised huge sums for autism charities as a result.
I liked her. She has a brilliant mind, and an incredibly warm, energising and sparkling personality. The audience were frequently in stitches.
My favourite quip in response to the question  asking whether she has many male readers - "I don't think many male readers slip between my covers".

And - report from New Zealand Herald.

And - report on Rhys Darby event, and others too.
