How do you say thank you?

Alofa and Filipo want to learn gagana Samoa.
At bedtime they ask Mummy and Daddy:
"Can you teach us to say thank you?"
The answers to their questions introduce readers to the Samoan langauge and to Alofa and Filipo
s family and culture.
An appealing, delightful picture book, my congratulations to the author, illustrator and publishers for this book which introduces the Sāmoan language and Sāmoan values in a colourful, accessible and fun bilingual format. The combined use of English and Sāmoan empowers learners of the Sāmoan language to extend their understanding of and vocabulary in Gagana Sāmoa.

About the Author
Karamia Müller

Karamia Müller was born in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Of S
āmoan heritage she is the daughter of Afioga Gafautau Filipo and Marie Müller. After graduating from Architecture School at the University of Auckland she practiced as an architectural graduate before returning to complete a Masters of Architecture in Research. That research into indigenising architectural practices serves as a compass for the Navigator book series.
Karamia drew on the expertise of S
āmoan educators Ene Tapusoa and Melegalenu‘u Ah Sam to translate the Sāmoan phrases.

Currently Karamia is herself an adult learner of the Sāmoan language. She is the youngest of five children. Karamia is known as Aunty Kiki to seven nieces and nephews. She still loves to do handstands.

About the Illustrator
Mark Paterson
With 13 years experience, Mark has worked as an animator, designer and storyboard artist in London, Vancouver and New Zealand for companies from MTV to the BBC. Productions he has worked on include the BAFTA winning Charlie and Lola, War Game, Little Princess, MTV Downtown and The Cramp Twins.

Traditionally trained, Mark has a strong background in drawing and design, and loves it. However he’s also pleased that computers have sped up the more repetitive process of animating which leaves him more time for space travel!
