Fourth Estate buys erotic tale from Gemmell

20.09.12 | Joshua Farrington - The Bookseller

Fourth Estate has acquired a new erotica title from Nikki Gemmell, whose book, The Bride Stripped Bare, in which a wife documents her sexual experiences, hit bestseller charts this summer.
The Bride Stripped Bare was originally released in 2003, but was repackaged and republished by Fourth Estate in July this year. Another erotic title by the author, With My Body, was released in 2011 before being republished in a matching livery with The Bride Stripped Bare.
Her next book, The Gate, will be a retelling of D H Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover, following a Notting Hill banker's wife and her affair with the gardener of a local communal garden.
Fourth Estate editorial director Clare Reihill said: "Nikki Gemmell's novels predate this current trend in fiction—she has been writing about and exploring this milieu for several years. Her work is profound, provocative and very honest and to my mind leaves her competitors in the shade."
The HarperCollins imprint will publish the book in summer 2013.
