The Village Voice has picked BookCourt in Brooklyn as “New York’s Best Bookstore” for the year.
Don’t forget to support all your favorite independent bookstores and explore our Best Indie Bookstores on Twitter directory. If you live in Brooklyn, you might want to join one of BookCourt’s reading groups.

Here’s more from the Voice:
“After Henry Zook and Mary Gannett purchased the flower shop next door in 1996 and converted the greenhouse in back into an event space in 2008, the shop now offers its well-edited selection of books and magazines in more than five times the room. Still very much a family-run business, Cobble Hill’s BookCourt—this year’s BONY winner for best bookstore—has a consistently excellent program of events (Jennifer Egan, Lou Reed, and Jonathan Franzen have all stopped by) organized by son Zack Zook, executive editor of the lit mag Cousin Corinne’s Reminder. Contrary to what you might think about indie bookshops being elitist, the BookCourt staff is decidedly not.”
