Recipe for success: Irish book awards shortlist


Catherine Fulvio and Rachel Allen were among the six nominees for the inaugural cookbook of the year award.

The Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2012 shortlist features renowned Irish authors including John Banville, Edna O’Brien, Emma Donoghue, Joseph O’Connor, Cecelia Ahern, Tana French and Kevin Barry.
Memoirs from political and sporting figures including former president Mary Robinson, Senator David Norris, sporting commentator Jimmy Magee, Olympic star Katie Taylor and rugby legend John Hayes also feature.
This is the seventh year of the awards, which honour Irish writers across the entire publishing spectrum.
The shortlist was selected by a panel of industry experts and the awards were open to titles published between November 2011 and this month.
This year, a new category, the Avonmore Cookbook of the Year, has been added, which celebrates the best of Irish food writing. Nominees for the inaugural award are Rachel Allen, Donal Skehan, Domini Kemp, Catherine Fulvio, Neven Maguire and Aoife Carrigy.
The public are being asked to vote at irishbookawards.ieby November 18th. The winners will be announced at a gala event in Dublin’s RDS on Thursday, November 22nd.
