Young People's Literature Announced
On Wednesday morning, the National Book Foundation narrowed its longlist down to five finalists for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature: Kathi Appelt's The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp, Cynthia Kadohata's The Thing About Luck, Tom McNeal's Far Far Away, Meg Rosoff's Picture Me Gone, and Gene Luen Yang's Boxers and Saints. Ann Jonas, author and illustrator of numerous picture books, died in Rhinebeck, N.Y., on September 29 at the age of 81. Her books include Round Trip (1983), an ALA Notable Book and a New York Times Best Illustrated Book, The Quilt (1984), Color Dance (1989), Aardvarks, Disembark! (1990), Splash! (1995), Watch William Walk (1997), and Bird Talk (1999). more
