Gestalten Launches U.S. Children's
Publishing Program

Berlin-based Gestalten, publisher of books on art, architecture, design, and photography for adults, will begin distributing books in the U.S. market this month under the Little Gestalten imprint. Picture books are a main focus of the Little Gestalten list, which also includes nonfiction titles illustrated with original artwork. more

Summer Camps Help Aboriginal Kids
Find Fun in Reading

Aboriginal children in remote communities in Canada's northern regions are getting some extra nutrition for both their minds and bodies at literacy camps this summer with help from Kids Can Press and TD Bank Group. Toronto-based Frontier College has been running the summer literacy camps since 2005; in 2013, 58,000 children ages five to 15 attended the camps; they read more than 48,000 books and received about 27,000 books to take home and keep. more

Picture Books Coming to Farmers Market
Candlewick Press in Somerville, Mass., and its local independent bookstore, Porter Square Books in Cambridge, Mass., are collaborating on a book table at the nearby Davis Square Farmers Market, starting on August 20. "We are thrilled to have this chance to connect more directly with the neighborhood and broader Somerville community, and to support our local bookstore," said Candlewick's John Mendelson. more
