Ecowarrior Tom Hassler returns with two new action adventure children’s books

Ecowarrior Tom Hassler returns with two new action adventure children’s books that deliver page-turning reads with ecological themes…

Tom Hassler and
The Whale Killers
Doug Wilson
Published by Erkel-Erkel Publishing Ltd, September 2014, RRP $19.99

The whale killers are just that, a pirate group hunting whales for profit. Tom has to recruit some fantastical friends to save his Sea People, the whales.

Tom Hassler is no ordinary boy. He can fly, for a start, and talk to sea creatures. But can he stop the slaughter of innocent whales and their calves in the Great Southern Ocean? Is he brave enough to stand in front of their harpoons, if that’s what it takes?

In the Antarctic, a group of dastardly whale hunters are on the prowl. Tom’s amazing grandmother reviews the terrible scenes from the monitoring lab at Castle Hassler. Desperately, she calls the sea creatures together to defend the helpless whales — but will they be in time? And what will Tom be asked to do now, to justify his fancy new title as the Hope of the Sea People? So many questions and so little time to find the answers ... and does anyone know what a Xakarax is and where you can find one?

Ecological themes:
Tom Hassler, Ecowarrior. Once Tom has inherited the leadership of the Sea People, he has to face many different assaults on their environment and their ecological balances. Different ecological themes are woven seamlessly into each story, so the messages are incidental and support the adventure. Tom has other adventures in The Rats of Droolmoan Cave and The Giant Razor-clawed Granioptrix of Ice Mountain.

Tom Hassler and
Snake Haven

Doug Wilson
Published by Erkel-Erkel Publishing Ltd,  September 2014, RRP $19.99

In Snake Haven, Tom has to deal with oil spills, which damage the environment and also, worryingly, harm seabirds; and Tom knows this from his first-hand efforts to save them. Then there are the most frightening of all crocodiles, the ocean-going salties.

As Tom Hassler, Hope of the Sea People, races to an oil spill from a wrecked ship to help the terrified, oil-soaked birds, his mind is already on a holiday. Somewhere nice and warm. After all, his grandmother has promised — and he knows he’s earned it. But when he finds himself on a tropical island with his best friend Lydia and an aunt he’s never met, it all seems too good to be true. And it is.
Just offshore is Illiya Island — Snake Haven, home to a secretive snake-worshipping cult. Mysterious giant saltwater crocodiles lurk, and when raiders strike, Tom must draw on every bit of courage and skill to save his friend from the evil snake-worshippers. But has he bitten off more than he can chew? This time, will courage be enough?
