Events on at Takapuna Library this week

Book Signing and Meet the author – Vern Walker
10am – 1pm on Thursday 11 September

Meeting Room, 1st Floor, Takapuna Library

Vern Walker is the author  of PETER SNELL AND THE KIWIS WHO FLEW

This is a large size book of 305 pages with 124 photos , published by David Ling Publishing, with a foreword by Peter Snell.
It covers the great era (1956-1965) when New Zealand middle and long-distance runners showed a clean pair of heels to the world . . . Peter Snell, Murray Halberg, Bill Baillie, Marise Chamberlain, John Davies, Jeff Julian, Barry Magee and Neville Scott. It was a decade when ‘black’ signalled a tough time for opponents everywhere.
As one of the runners of these times, author Vern Walker is well placed to write this history. He was also a long-time feature writer for the New Zealand Runner magazine.

This is not a book talk, but an opportunity to call into the library between 10.00am and 1.00pm to  meet and chat with author Vern Walker.
If you wish to buy a signed collector’s edition, copies are $45 (cash or cheque)

Mayor in the Chair – Takapuna Library
Friday 12 September, 12noon to 1.00pm

Auckland Mayor, Len Brown is looking forward to chatting to Takapuna locals when he holds a Mayor in the Chair event on Friday 12 September 2014.
The Mayor will pull up a chair on the ground floor of the Takapuna Library between 12 noon  and 1.00pm, in one of a series of events that allows Aucklanders to get face to face with their Mayor.
Mayor in the Chair sessions are informal community events where people can come along, wait their turn, then have a brief one-on-one chat with Len Brown, to ask questions or share their thoughts and concerns about their community. They are held regularly in different locations around Auckland.
“I really value these sessions as a chance to chat directly to Aucklanders about their experience of their region, their council and their communities. I hear about concerns which are specific to different communities, as well as issues that are common to Aucklanders across the region.”
“I also like to get out and support the good work our local board members and ward councillors do in their local communities.”
The Mayor will set up his chair in the Takapuna Library, The Strand, Takapuna  from 12 noon  – 1.00pm on Friday 12 September 2014.
