About the author:
Zana Bell has had five novels published in a range of genre:
young adult, historical, contemporary romance and historical adventure and
these have been published across nine countries. She also writes short stories
and articles which have appeared in Landfall, NZ Geographic, and History
Scotland as well as being broadcast on National Radio.
Zana has gained various awards
including grants from Creative New Zealand and the National Oral Archives. In
2012 she was shortlisted for the New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA)
Mid-Careers Writers Grant. Internationally, her books have been recognised. Her
novel Forbidden Frontier – based on New Zealand pirate, Charlotte
Badger – was nominated as one of Single Titles 10 Best Reads of 2008. Tempting
the Negotiator won a Cataromance Reviewers award two years later. This year
Zana was awarded a Vice Chancellor scholarship to work fulltime on her PhD in
Creative Writing.
Fools Gold is Zana’s sixth novel and her Antipodean
salute to the great Georgette Heyer; a prolific writer of lively historical
romances. Fools Gold is set in 1860s Hokitika and Christchurch and
explores such themes as class, the fickleness of fate, and the opportunities
New Zealand offered to enterprising young migrants. And, of course, there is
also a love story!
