Kobo, Mills & Boon and W H Smith launch competitionMills & Boon, Kobo and W H Smith are launching a Romance Writing Life competition, offering authors the chance to win a book deal with Mills & Boon, e-book promotions from Kobo and in-store support from W H Smith.
Entrants must submit a synopsis of their novel and its first chapter via www.romancewritinglife.com, which contains guidelines on modern romance writing.
Norfolk funeral for Ion TrewinA funeral will be held for Ion Trewin at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham, Norfolk at 2p.m. on 23rd April, followed by private cremation.

Faber bags O'BrienFaber has signed Edna O’Brien’s first novel in 10 years.
Creative director Lee Brackstone signed UK and Commonwealth rights in The Little Red Chairs from Ed Victor, and will publish in February 2016, simultaneously with Little, Brown in the US.
The book sees a wanted war criminal settle in a small Irish village, where a local woman falls in love with him — with terrible consequences. 
Fat Fox launches celebrity children's bookCelebrities including Sir Paul McCartney, the members of One Direction and Kate Moss have contributed to a charity children's book about a half-girl, half-dinosaur, launched today (14th April) at the London Book Fair by Fat Fox Books.
Holly Milbank, m.d. of Fat Fox Books, was inspired to create The Curious Tale of Fi-Rex by the game of consequences, where players take on the telling of a story in turns. All the participating celebrities were asked to write a section of the book but were only allowed to see the last line of the previous section.
More UK publisher deals for BookmateRussian e-book subscription service Bookmate has agreed a deal with Bloomsbury, Faber Factory and Harlequin, which will add more than 15,000 backlist titles to its library.
Faber Factory will provide Bookmate’s users with access to books from publishers including Atlantic Books, Allison & Busby, John Blake, Titan Books, The History Press, Birlinn, Oldcastle Books, Pushkin Press and Short Books.
Donal Ryan among EU Prize winnersIrish author Donal Ryan, whose debut The Spinning Heart (Doubleday Ireland) won the 2013 Guardian First Book Award, is among the winners of the 2015 European Union Prize for Literature.

Horobin to join Bonnier Publishing FictionJames Horobin, previously group sales, marketing and publicity director at Simon & Schuster, is to join the recently launched Bonnier Publishing Fiction division as executive director with responsibility for sales and marketing.
Horobin, who left S&S last month, will take up his new position in September.
New memoir to mark Athill's 99th birthdayGranta Books has acquired a further volume of memoir by former Costa Biography Award winning-author Diana Athill.
Editorial director Bella Lacey acquired world rights to the book, titled Alive, Alive Oh! And Other Things That Matter, from Rebecca Carter at Janklow and Nesbit.
Athill was a founding director of Andre Deutsch publishing house, as well as being a novelist and memoirist. Her books include Yesterday Morning, Stet and Somewhere Towards the End, which won the Costa Biography Award in 2008 (all published by Granta Books).
