Up until now Penguin Random House has not participated in
any of the major ebook subscription offerings, but the publisher has a new
exclusive with Scribd for audiobooks. PRH is making available more than 9,000
audio titles for unlimited listening as part of Scribd's subscription program
(which combines ebooks, audiobooks and comics in a single plan). Scribd says
they have more than 45,000 audiobooks available now, after launching
with over 30,000 titles last November. The new titles are cataloged under www.scribd.com/penguin-random-house.
HarperCollins and Scholastic were the best-known trade publishers offering audiobooks through the subscription plan when it launched. Scribd says Amy Poehler's Yes, Please is the most popular audiobook through their subscriptions so far. Four genres -- children's, business, religion and self-help/happiness titles -- "stand out as being substantially more popular in audiobooks than in ebooks" at Scribd.
