Bookshops are gearing up for a mini Super Thursday today (27th
August) following the release of two big hitting titles – the fourth
installment of the Millennium series, The
Girl in the Spider’s Web (MacLehose Press), and Terry
Pratchett’s last book
The Shepherd’s Crown (Doubleday Children’s).

Initial reviews for David Lagercrantz’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web
(MacLehouse), the fourth novel in the late Stieg Larsson’s Millennium
series, have been largely favourable, with the Telegraph giving the book four stars and
the Guardian
saying “Lagercrantz has constructed an elegant plot”.
The book centres on characters Lisbeth Salander, the hacker
who gave the series’ first book its title – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – and on
journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

More details and the book cover for Morrissey’s novel List of the Lost have
been revealed, with publisher Penguin Press describing the title as
“extraordinary”.
The novel will be published in paperback on 24th September
with an r.r.p of £7.99.
Morrissey has released some cryptic details about the novel,
describing it as an “American tale where evil conquers good”.

A “busy and focused” Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF)
kicked off yesterday (26th August) with a record number of exhibitors, the
biggest-ever UK contingent and many fair-goers saying the current Chinese
stock market turmoil would do little to dent their future publishing plans.

Laurence King Publishing’s adult colouring book Secret Garden by
Johanna Basford has sold 3 million copies in China since the book was
published there on 1st June 2015, the publisher revealed at Beijing
International Book Fair (BIBF) today (27th August).

A woman who founded the publishing firm which initially
released Fifty Shades of
Grey has been ordered by a US judge to set aside $10.7m (£6.9m)
for her former partner after being found guilty of defrauding her out of
royalties for the book.
Australian Amanda Hayward and Jennifer Pedroza were partners
in The Writers Coffee Shop, a small online publishing firm that initially
issued the Fifty Shades of Grey series.

HarperCollins is to launch an interactive outdoor campaign at
Westfield White City shopping centre in west London for the paperback
release of psychological thriller The
Ice Twins by S K Tremayne.
From 31st August to 14th September customers will be able to
download a free sample of the book from the wi-fi hotspots around the
Westfield Eat St site – a large interactive advertising billboard.
HarperCollins said the campaign would reach 500,000 people.

Pan Macmillan has acquired a dystopian trilogy, the first
draft of which was published on story writing community Wattpad, at auction
for a six-figure sum.
Senior commissioning editor Bella Pagan bought UK and
Commonwealth rights to Slavedays
and its sequels by Vic James [pictured] from Robert Kirby at United Agents.
