Goldsboro Books owner David Headley is to launch an international online bookseller next spring, funded by “significant investment” from Headley and his business partner Lee Wilson.
Waterstones has said its 'Buy Books For Syria' campaign has already been a “great success” after first few days.
While the company could not yet give sales figures for how many titles customers had been bought under the appeal, Sandra Taylor, head of PR and events at Waterstones, said it company was “delighted” with the “enthusiastic reaction” to the campaign from customers.
The most influential and innovative people in publishing and writing have been named by The Hospital Club h.Club 100.
Wariwck Prize for Writing
Karen Joy Fowler and Karl Ove Knausgaard have made the shortlist for the biennial £25,000 Warwick Prize for Writing.
Viral
Kudos has acquired television rights to "break-out" thriller Viral by Helen FitzGerald, after a "hotly" contested auction.
The book is about mothers, daughters and a viral sex tape, and tells the story of one mother’s quest for truth and vengeance following the online shaming of her daughter.
Kudos also produced "Broadchurch" and "The Tunnel".
The book will be published by Faber & Faber in February 2016.


Wild Rumpus
Wild Rumpus, the arts organisation behind immersive events such as the Just So Festival, is to start publishing children’s books after launching its own press.
Sarah Bird, one of the directors of Wild Rumpus (along with Rowan Hoban), said she wants to publish “visual, engaging, inspirational, delightful books” through its new publishing arm, entitled Wild Rumpus Press.

The trend for medical graphic novels continues with Bloomsbury’s The Inflatable Woman by Rachael Ball.
GBBO finalists
Three Great British Bake Off (GBBO) finalists - Ian Cumming, Nadiya Jamir Hussain and Tamal Ray - will be signing copies of the series’ tie-in recipe book this Thursday (8th October) at Waterstones Picadilly.
Part of a huge franchise, The Great British Bake Off: Celebrations, by Linda Collister, is published by Hodder & Stoughton and contains the best of the bakers’ and judges’ recipes from the 2015 series. 
The finalists will be signing copies at 12.30pm at Waterstones flagship store. 
Speak Up For Libraries will hold its second-ever conference in November, bringing together a range of library groups.
The coalition of library groups, including Campaign for the Book; CILIP (the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals); the Library Campaign; UNISON; and Voices for the Library will meet on 23rd November to debate key issues such as library closures and the use of volunteers, and coordinate anti-cuts campaigns.
Faber & Faber
Faber has acquired a “timely and important” book about single motherhood by Emma Brockes.
Hannah Griffiths, publishing director at Faber, acquired An Excellent Choice from Sarah Ballard at United Agents.
In the book, Brockes presents the “alternative” idea of women “settling down to a deadline”.
The Bodley Head/FT Essay Prize
The Bodley Head and the Financial Times have launched their fourth annual essay writing prize.
