Southwark Council has told the library that its rent will be increased on March 1 (the first day of Women's History month) from £12,000 to £30,000 a year. The library says council officers are refusing to negotiate.
The volunteer-led charity is completely self-funding. Its collection of 7,000 books is a unique archive of feminist writing. It also provides facilities for women's and community groups in London.
